About Me

Editor, writer, and publishing professional with a background in creative writing and psychology and over a decade of experience in content creation

I’m Aly Owen

From the time I wrote at age six what I’m sure was an absolute masterpiece sequel to The Wind in the Willows, I knew I would spend my life immersed in words. From poems and short stories to plays and novels, you name it—I wrote it, and won awards for it. It wasn’t until after I graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in creative writing and psychology and started working in publishing, though, that I realized I didn’t just love creating my own content. I loved helping others bring their ideas, dreams, and stories to life, too.

I have bounced around a lot in life in terms of both jobs and countries, but this love of effective, engaging storytelling is the thread that connects it all. Well, that and a massive love of and obsession with food and moonlighting as a pastry chef, but that’s not relevant to this particular story.

After working in Los Angeles at Red Hen Press, FabFitFun, and several websites and blogs, I lived in Barcelona and then Berlin as a writer-in-residence while I continued to edit remotely for Narrative Magazine. I soon found myself in London, the home of gray skies and shining wit. I remembered it fondly from my few terms of study abroad at University of Oxford, and after graduating from University College London with an MA in Publishing while working at Phaidon Press, I began working at SAGE Publishing and occasionally freelancing for publications like TripSavvy. In 2021, thoroughly armed with the knowledge that full-time working from home was both feasible and desirable, I transitioned to being a self-employed, freelance editor and content creator through AlyIteration Editorial.

My Skills

I write and edit content for individuals, companies, and brands. Having worked on newspapers, magazines, books, websites, and apps and shaped content across print and digital media for diverse, global audiences, I know how to turn visions and voices into engaging, meaningful stories.

Whatever purpose, audience, medium, concept, style, and tone you have in mind, I will find the words to embody it in ways that inform, engage, inspire, and entertain. This skill list reflects how often I’m working on each of these services I offer, but they aren’t all I do.
